She is especially interested in how eye is deformed in pathologic myopia, and then how eye deformity damages retina and optic nerve.  As a method to visualize the shape of the entire globe, she established a new technique called '3D MRI of the eye'.  Based on 3D MRI and wide-field fundus imaging, she proposed a novel classification of posterior staphyloma.  Using various imaging modalities (especially swept-source OCT), she has been detecting structural abnormalities which occur in various tissues in eyes with pathologic myopia.               "Professor Zhang endeavors to provide cataract surgical training for doctors working in rural provinces. Since 2000, Professor Zhang and her team played a key role in the advancement of primary eye care services and 8 major programs for blindness prevention in China, such as Project Vision, Lifeline Express, the Aid for Tibet Brightness Action and so on. She has embarked on the journey of Poverty Alleviation on her own behalf for about 20 years. Her traces of steps cover 140 counties of 31 provinces and 605 young doctors have been trained to perform cataract surgeries independently in China. More than 290,000 cataract surgeries have been performed under her poverty alleviation programs.  ",
              "Professor Zhang has made over 31 trips across Tibet, to train the local Tibetan doctors. With her efforts, the first cataract surgery by phacoemulsification, the first glaucoma trabeculectomy, and the first vitrectomy were performed independently by eight Tibetan doctors trained by JSIEC. In November 2017 and June 2018, she led the team to Gilgit in Pakistan and Burundi in Africa to carry out the mission of Foreign Aid Brightness Action. With the efforts of the team, the local has established the China-Pakistan Cataract Treatment Center, and Professor Zhang was the first Chinese doctor to perform phacoemulsification in Pakistan.  ",
